PSG’s talks with Kylian Mbappe over extending his contract are ‘heading in a positive direction’… but Real Madrid still believe ‘they are favourites’ to land the striker on a free transfer this summer
- Kylian Mbappe’s contract will expire at Paris Saint-Germain this summer
- Real Madrid have held a long-time interest in the French international
- Mbappe’s representatives, including his mother, will hold talks with PSG
- Following talks this week, she will then travel to Madrid to also hold discussions
Paris Saint-Germain remain positive that they can extend Kylian Mbappe’s contract beyond the summer despite continued heavy interest from Real Madrid.
Off the back of clinching the Ligue 1 title on Saturday for a record equalling 10th time, PSG are now doing all they can to tie down the France international ahead of next season.
According to ESPN, talks are set to continue this week over keeping the 23-year-old at the club whose deal expires at the end of the season.

His mother Fayza Lamari, who is representing her son’s contractual dealings, is expected to travel to the Middle East with her youngest son Ethan to continue the negotiations while being on holiday.
PSG president Nasser al Khelaifi is expected to meet Mbappe’s mother for talks, but following her stay in Doha she is ten expected to fly out to Real Madrid to meet with club representatives.
Despite failing with multiple deadline day bids last summer, Real believe they are favourites to pick up the striker on a free transfer, although PSG are confident he will stay put at the Parc des Princes.

The report also adds that a sticking point in any deal centres on image rights. Mbappe would like 100 per cent control of them and the companies he works with and PSG appear to be more accepting of his demands than the Spanish giants.
Real could be hampered by a policy where they strictly maintain 50 per cent image rights for all players. Club president Florentino Perez would have to make an unprecedented move to grant Mbappe his wishes.
Following PSG’s flop in the Champions League last-16 this season at the hands of Madrid, Mbappe’s representatives are also keen on how much PSG will invest on improving the squad this summer – even though the futures of sporting director Leonardo and boss Mauricio Pochettino look far from certain after the weak European exit.

Despite his contract being due to expire, it is also reported that Mbappe has not yet decided where he would like to play next term and he could make his decision well beyond the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Pochettino has admitted that he would like to keep Mbappe in the French capital and hinted before his side’s 1-1 draw with Lens on Saturday that Mbappe could make his decision as soon as the title was won.
‘As a coach, the situation does not bother me,’ Pochettino said in his pre-match press conference. ‘You have to understand it. This does not only happen in Paris, but also in other clubs.

‘This is not the first, nor the last time that such situations arise. We have to adapt. Selfishly, I would like to keep Kylian with me, of course. I would like to take him on vacation, take him home, keep him all the time. The club would like him to be able to stay here for a long time.
‘It’s a negotiation. This decision is always related to different parties. It may be taken once the objective of the title is reached, once the season is over.’
While Madrid look like they remain favourites, recent reports also state that talks may have stalled between Mbappe and Madrid after the striker asked for a deal worth £83million more than one already provisionally agreed – a request that the club have refused.
